BrazilGoodbye!

I know I have sporadically posted on here for the past year, but, even though I've been busy, for the last month I've been making a conscious effort to post and keep you guys updated on the best soccer in the world (kinda). However I'm disappointed with the state that this family of blogs now finds itself in. The Offside is not what it used to be and the people in charge have seemed to abandoned it in a way. I never meant to take this job on full time (I'm no blogger!). I merely wanted to hold it and keep it going until a rightful heir to Bruno appeared. That person has not appeared yet (you are welcomed to contact me or, someone else in charge, if you want to write The Brazil Offside). I believe Brazilian soccer is becoming bigger and bigger and deserves more blogs like this, that caters to the English-speaking masses. I am leaving, however, there are plenty of options out there as far as English written Brazilian soccer websites go:

http://brazil.worldcupblog.org/
http://pitacodogringo.wordpress.com/
http://snapkakapop.blogspot.com/

Thank you guys and so long! I will try to return someday and help out, but until then, goodbye!

Neymar, Neymar, Neymar, Neymar

As many of you may have heard, Neymar has been awarded the 2011 FIFA Puskás Award. The award is given to the player who scores the "most beautiful" goal of the year. I can't disagree, the goal was a beauty.

Larissa Riquelme, Refereeing Scandal, Santos Woman's Team Status

Larissa

Larissa Riquelme will present/model América-PE's new uniforms for the 2012 season. The news is a bit random (América-PE is completely unknown in Brazil). The club hopes that Larissa's presence will bring much needed attention to the club and generate money to restructure its youth ...

Saint Marcos Retires, Muricy Named Among Best, and More

The big news from the last few days is that São Marcos is retiring. Marcos spent 19 years with Palmeiras and was Brazil's number one during the successful 2002 World Cup campaign. Unlike many of today's players, Marcos has only played for one team his entire career, resisting the temptations of Europe to stay with ...

Brazilian Managers Earn European Salaries

Brazilian Managers Earn European Salaries
I'm sure we are all aware of the economic "boom" in Brazil right now? The result has been a wave of veteran players returning and young stars staying. These players are earning millions and millions (a month)...cough cough Neymar cough. But managers are also getting in on the action. This article ...

Corinthians Orders Chinese, Neymar Best in the Americas and Copinha

Sup guys? I hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays (and has recovered from their hangovers).

Chen Zhi-Zhao to Corinthians
If it sounds strange, that's because it is. Rarely do Brazilian clubs sign non-South Americans, so for one to hire a Chinese player of all people is beyond bizarre. China isn't exactly known for its football, the country ...

The End

After a little over two years of documenting my thoughts on Santos on this platform, I will be moving to my own blog for the new year. When I made my first post I was a novice in every sense of the word. Now I can look back and smile at my awkward first steps ...

2011 Santos Season Review

The Club World Cup Final marked the end to yet another eventful year as a Santos fan. It was with great successes, immense failures, beautiful attacking, and the - almost inevitable- comedy acts at the back. With the players on holidays and Brazilian football in a temporary lull, it's time for a recap of the ...

A Bridge Too Far

Santos20

This post comes almost a week after the game due to my busy schedule, but it had to come eventually. As anyone reading this already knows, the challenge for the third world title failed at the last hurdle with a 4x0 defeat to Barcelona. In the aftermath ...

Barcelona 4 X Santos 0

Santos fans (and Brazilians) believed that if anyone could stop Barca it was Santos.

Why? Because Santos are 1) Brazilian 2) champions of South America and 3) they had Neymar.

Surely a clash between Brazil vs. Europe could only result in a Brazilian victory.

It's the same euphoria that consumes Brazilians during the world cup.

We are Brazilian. Europeans ...
