Quick Predictions for Campeonato Brasileiro
Still with the state championships echoing and Copa do Brasil and Libertadores driving more attention, Campeonato Brasileiro starts this weekend. And this blog cannot help itself and post a few predictions. Last year worked pretty well.
The title won’t fall outside these 6 and a Libertadores spots belong to all of them:
Inter: Fernandao, Nilmar, Guinazu and Alex, one of the best Brazilian players in the season. Need more than that?
Palmeiras: Huge investments, great players and a respectable coach.
Sao Paulo: Not the best football of the season, but the club and especially its coach love a long league.
Flamengo: Good line-up and a crowd that makes the difference. Need to overcome the Libertadores tragedy.
Cruzeiro: Like Flamengo, it needs to forget Libertadores. And some of their players are on top shape.
Fluminense: Great line-up.
6th to 10th:
Santos, Vasco, Sport, Botafogo
11th to 15th:
Coritiba, Atletico-MG, Atletico-PR
Relegation:
Ipatinga: Too young and growing up is not easy.
Portuguesa: Mediocre campaign in the state championship. Relies entirely on forward Diogo.
Goias: Like last year, the club remains fragile and counting on veterans, like Paulo Baier.
Vitoria: Returns to serie A are always painful
Nautico: Small investments, and lost a few key players, like Acosta, from last year.
JOEL SANTANA AND OBINA TAKE FLAMENGO TO THE TITLE!
By: Bruno Romani |Before becoming the coach of Sout Africa, Joel Santana left Flamengo with a title. And it is historical. The first-half of the final in Rio was excellent. With a loss in the first match, Botafogo attacked Flamengo from minute one. Flamengo waited for Botafogo on its field and tried to use the counter-attacks as its main [...]

By: Bruno Romani |In Minas, Marcelo Moreno scored again and Cruzeiro did not much to win the title. In Parana, Coritiba took the title, even losing 2-1.

INTER SCORES 8 TIMES TO WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
By: Bruno Romani |If anyone expected a surprise in Rio Grande do Sul, Internacional made it clear that it is one of the best clubs in Brazil nowadays. 8-1, with all their talents in an inspired afternoon. Fernandão got a hat-trick. Alex, the best player from Inter in 08, scored twice. Nilmar and Indio scored one each. Even [...]

PALMEIRAS WINS THE FIRST TITLE OF THE CENTURY IN SP
By: Bruno Romani |After 9 years, 1 relegation, lots of disappointment and mediocre campaigns, Palmeiras is big again. The green club did the expected and had no difficulties in beating 5-0 Ponte Preta at Palestra Italia. This is the third state championship title in a row for coach Vanderley Luxemburgo. For Palmeiras, this is the first Paulista title [...]

The Underdogs in Copa do Brasil
By: Bruno Romani |Copa do Brasil is a great tournament for putting together clubs of various divisions. And it’s not unusual to see the underdogs reaching high stages in the cup. This year’s tournament already has its biggest surprise: Corinthians from Alagoas. The club reached the quarter-finals after losing 3-1 against Juventude, state finalist in Rio Grande do [...]

Brazil Looks Pretty Good in the Copa Libertadores
By: Bruno Romani |Brazil is looking pretty good in the Copa Libertadores. In the past week, the first-leg of the round of 16 was played, and all the results make me believe that in the quarter-finals we will see 5 Brazilian clubs, 4 clashing against each other. The one looking the best is Flamengo. The rubro-negro visited America in [...]

Copa do Brasil 08: Palmeiras Humilated; Corinthians Moves On
By: Bruno Romani |I don’t know to what extent doing well in the state championships can be good for clubs. Palmeiras is the virtual champion in São Paulo and last night fought for a spot in the quarter-finals of Copa do Brasil. The green team has been getting a lot of attention from the media and nice words [...]

Ronaldo Caught With Travestites - Oh no!
By: Bruno Romani |I don’t even know how to start this one. Ronaldo, yes - that one, is being accused by the travestite André Luis Ribeiro, AKA Andréa Albertine, for not paying for his/her services. The travestite went to the police, where later Ronaldo was invited to give his version of the happenings. He says he/she is just trying [...]

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS: Half-way done!
By: Bruno Romani |The finals of all major state leagues in Brazil are under way. The first-legs were played this Sunday. Some results were expected, such as the one in São Paulo. Others were complete surprises, like the one in Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. In Rio and Paraná things cannot be predicted yet. São Paulo Palmeiras were [...]

We are the champions!!!
After 11 years we're the champions of São Paulo since 1996. We had to wait Luxemburgo come back to celebrate other Paulistão. The crowd has already knew about the title before 1 PM every palestrino scream out "Chiqueiro, é festa no chiqueiro".
The final match was incredibly easy even Sérgio Guedes had lain about their line-up to say that Elias, César "pé frio" and Leandro were not in conditions to play.

Palmeiras is out of Brazil Cup
Palmeiras played with presumption and did practically nothing. Sport with only one good player did a huge damage in Palmeiras, Romerito is his name, has played for 8 clubs in their career among Corinthians and Goiás without big attention. He arrived at Recife in the last year. On last Wednesday he shone more than everyone did 3 of 4 Sport's goals.
For us it was a humiliation because we lost to a club of Northeast and lost the opportunity of to confirm our spot in Libertadores Cup, now is to wait to the Brasileirão.

Like i said...
Like i had said in previous post Palmeiras reached the final with magnificent victory 2-0. 1st one the goalkeeper made a howler and 2nd one on the counter-attack El Mago finished São Paulo FC. Luxemburgo on 100th match as coach at Palestra Itália won for 84th time. For me Henrique was the best man on the pitch but São Marcos played very very well too.
Even journalists, players and team managers of both clubs tried to spread the "peace" among supporters. Unsuccessful because at half time someone threw pepper gas at são-paulino locker room.

Are you ready São Paulo?
The Lance! searched in the history and found 10 opportunities that we lost the 1st leg then in the 2nd leg we reverted to it.
The 10 most memorable wins after has been defeated in 1st leg
PAULISTÃO 93 FINAL
Palmeiras 0-1 Corinthians
Corinthians 0-4 Palmeiras

Unfortunately...
Unfortunately we lost to São Paulo FC, though with 2 irregular goals scored by Adriano. The 1st one was a volleyball pass, a "manchete" like we say in Brazil, but only the referee and the lineswoman didn't see because they weren't well positioned. The 2nd one he was fouled on Pierre, but there is discussion.
São Paulo FC was able to neutralize Palmeiras. Joílson and Jorge Wagner blocked off both sides and in this way Élder Granja and Leandro couldn't progress with liberty. Zé Luís was like a tick on Valdívia but El Mago didn't seek the ball.

Just to complete the schedule
The match against Barueri was boring for my side, of course, Barueri still had a chance to qualify but it needed for other results like defeats of Ponte Preta and Corinthians. Corinthians lost (is not a surprise) to Noroeste at Bauru but Ponte Preta got a draw at Santos.
We got 10th straight wins currently Verdão has the biggest invincibility in Brazil already are 14 undefeated games.
Even Barueri started better in the match still dreaming to be in the semi-finals. They kept possession ball in a 1st half. Palmeiras had few good moments.

We're in 3rd knockout round
Palmeiras played very well over two sides with Élder Granja e Leandro switched play all time. The team suffered a bit of pressure from Central in the beginning of the game around 10'-15' with Leonardo and Cláudio but after that Verdão showed them a good spectacle.
Luxemburgo changed the starting ...

We are in the semi-finals!!!
Palestra Itália will be the venue of couple rock concerts on next week (Rod Stewart and Korn, Black Label Society and as headliner Ozzy Osbourne) but on Saturday was Palmeiras that gave a true concert scored 3 goals and reached the semi-finals.
After 12 matches undefeated, 8 straight wins and 4 draw, situate itself as favorite to championship.

It was in the last breath...
Palmeiras reach the leadership of the competition (momentarily) after to defeat Portuguesa but now we have 34 pts. and 10 victories against Guaratinguetá has 34 pts. and 11 victories.
But it was hard just at injury time 90+3' Preá scored the goal. Alex Mineiro lost a lot of goals but he wasn't the only one.
"With full stadium, it was very beautiful. The team fought pretty much and didn't deserve leave with draw."
J. Preá

We get the road to the finals
Yeah! It's right this sentence above. After 15 games playing unsteadily - win once, draw twice, loss once - Palmeiras with 4 wins straight and doesn't defeat since Feb. 6th 0-3 Guaratinguetá.
Since 1997 Palmeiras doesn't win the King Clash in State Championships last time was 1-0 goal scored by Viola.
