Canal 100 Day – Double Edition!

By: Bruno Romani | October 15th, 2008

Canal 100 Tuesday (did I say Tuesday? Late again!) is here in double edition to make-up for the lateness. On the weekend, Atletico-MG visited Flamengo and put an end to Flamengo’s dreams of lifting the Brazilia title for the sixth (fifth?) time. But back in the day, Flamengo was the one imposing painful losses to Atletico. The first video is the final of the 1980 Campeonato Brasileiro, the first time Fla won the tournament. For a crowd of 154 thousand fans, Zico and his teammates started to make history. Playing for Atletico, world class players such as Reinaldo, Toninho Cerezo and Eder (the last two were later called for the 82 World Cup.)

In the second video, the two clubs face each other a year later for the 1981 Copa Libertadores. Known to be a kock-out which the ref had a great influence, Flamengo eliminated Atletico and won its first and only continental title. The video shows the first leg which was played at Mineirao and ended with a 2 draw
