São Paulo Saves its Ass, Grêmio Doesn’t, CBF Saves Flamengo’s
By: Bruno Romani | August 3rd, 2007Two matches closed the 16th round of the Brasileiro this Thursday. And they both offer a look of what the tournament may be. At the Morumbi, São Paulo started very slow again, and allowed Juventude to score first with only 2 minutes into the match. Having problems to create chances, São Paulo tied just 30 minutes later through defender Miranda in a volley-kick. In the second-half, things changed very little, and coach Claúdio Duarte, who was having his debut ahead of Juventude, seemed satisfied with the draw. But the reality is that his team is weak. Borges with a header, and Hugo after a cross by Souza, gave final numbers to the match. São Paulo reached 31 points, and is not allowing Botafogo to breath.
In Florianópolis, Grêmio visited Figueirense wearing a quite strange kit searching for the third place. A goal at 41st mark in the second-half, however, ended Grêmio’s series of 9 games without a loss. Peter was the responsible for sending Grêmio to the 5th spot.
Wondering where Flamengo was this round? For some unknown reason, Flamengo had its match postponed again. This means that the team is 4 matches behind most of the teams. This lack of organization by CBF is creating a distortion. Flamengo will play these postponed games with the recently hired players and knowing how many points it will need to escape relegation. Given the influence teams from Rio have over CBF, some fans are starting to believe that an operation to save Flamengo has been put into action.

What about the other matches that were postponed by the CBF for Flamengo? Did they list a reason for those? Do you think the CBF is corrupt?

cheap excuses like:
-the PAN american games are happening
-can’t use Maracanathey’re the only team from Rio using those excuses. Yes, I do think CBF is corrupt. Many times it saved the big clubs from relegation. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
