If anyone still needed a proof of how football blogs is something for people with nothing better to do, he it is. After retiring, Romario, the legendary striker, decided to become a blogger. His site is http://www.blogdoromario.com.br/. In one of the posts he writes:

“Coach career? I’m out. I prefer the career of a blogger. I never liked to wake up early. I was always the last one to arrive to the training sessions. Imagine that as a coach I’d have to be the first one to arrive (I wanna see Maradona).

I’m always on the search for pleasure (listen to me, bro) and one of my pleasures now will be writing”

In other words, as a blogger Romario does not need to wake up early. I wish you could understand Portuguese, but the baixinho surprisingly writes with tone and style. It sounds like him talking. It looks like something far from being a PR thing.

However, as a true blogger, Romario already forgot to update his page. His excuse is “lack of time”. Can anyone tell me what he is doing?

Some players are bound to brilliant moments in their careers. Some choose different paths to become big news. Andre Luiz, defender of Botafogo, is one of those who found a great niche in the oddities section. Last <del datetime="00">year</del> June, André Luiz was arrested on the pitch in a match for Campeonato Brasileiro.

Tonight, his club found itself with a 2 goal draw at home against Estudiantes from Argentina. The score was eliminating Botafogo of the boring Copa Sudamericana. And the ref Carlos Chandía from Chile gave a free-kick to Estudiantes. He also decided to to give a yellow card to Andre Luis, for committing the foul. It was going to be his second, and a red card was just around the corner. This is when Andre exploded, took from Chandía’s hand the card and showed him the yellow. A complete non-sense, but funny. Look at the ref’s expression. The commentators are also shocked. And when we see trouble boy Carlos Alberto trying to get Andre Luis out of the argument is what makes thing it even more bizarre.

The images above just wrap up another year of emotional instability for Botafogo, which started with its vice-president getting into harsh arguments with the players through interviews with the press.

This is Vasco’s defender Odvan after the 4-2 defeat of his club against Figueirense. Another proof that Brazilian players memorize and spit the same words and sentences without thinking about them.

Politicians should not attend football matches. But in Brazil, during elections time, it is the favorite place for these people. In the picture below, the bald guy screaming is Sao Paulo governor Jose Serra. On Saturday, he went to see his club, Palmeiras, and took the time to campaign for his party mate running in the municipal elections of the city of Sao Paulo. Serra, who is usually respected as a politician even by his adversaries, got in an argument with fans of his own club. That teaches a lesson: politicians should not be in soccer stadiums.

ps: In case you’re wondering. Serra was the Brazilian health minister who who fought big pharmaceutical corporations to get cheaper HIV drugs to the Brazilian public health care system.

The man below is Luiz Estevao, Brazilian ex-Senator showing all the manners that politics taught him. In the early 00’s, he was caught in corruption scandals and impeached. Since then, he decided that football was a more honest environment and has been dedicating his time to the club he owns: Brasiliense. The diplomatic gestures happened this Saturday for the second division of Campeonato Brasileiro in the Brasilia derby between Gama and Brasiliense. Brasiliense won 3-2 with a goal in the final moments. And you wonder why the motto in the Brazilian falg is “Order and Progress”.

Ronaldo does not stop producing funny headlines. This time, his 32th birthday party ended at 8 am with him calling someone for a fight. Ronaldo appeared without his shirt, in a typical scene of the angry fat dude who did not get laid found any in club near you. What shows how f*cked up the situation was is that the guy wearing the hat stopping Ronaldo is Djalminha, ex-La Coruna midfielder who was left out of the 02 World Cup for heading the coach of his club. Ronaldo’s girlfriend had left the party a few hours before. At this point, I think it’s fair to say that his recovery is going great.

With a career full of highlights (not only for the good football), Edmundo does not cease to make into the headlines. At the age of 37, the forward is back after playing as a goalkeeper for Vasco. In the match, his club lost 3-1 at home for Cruzeiro, who moved to the second spot in the league. Cruzeiro was leading 2-1 (Guilherme and Ramirez had scored for the visitors) when goalie Tiago was ejected after making a penalty. Because Vasco had made the 3 subs, Edmundo went for the most under appreaciated position of football. Even losing, the fans were very supportive, but the Animal could not stop Guilherme, who scored the final goal of the match. After that, Edmundo made two good saves, giving the only moments celebration for the fans.

Emotional as usual, the forward cried after the match and said that refs keep stealing his club and that Cruzeiro players kept saying humilliating things throughout the match. Don’t cry Edmundo. We promise you won’t be the goalie in the next round.

Highlights (including lots of tears and words you won’t find in a Portuguese-English dictionary):

With 12 minutes into the match, Martini returned the ball to action. The ball bounced in the area of Parana and tricked keeper Mauro, who was having his debut at Parana as a solution to the poor performance of previous goalies this season. With the 3-1, Avai returned to the second spot in the table of serie B.
