Botafogo Won’t Cry Tonight
By: Bruno Romani | May 21st, 2008
The first-leg of Copa do Brasil started this Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro. Botafogo received Corinthians. And this time the club from Rio has no reasons for crying. Corinthians played better throughout the entire match, taking advantage of the great moment forward Herrera is experiencing. He gave an incredible assist for Carlos Alberto to open the score board for the visitors. The second-half started and the same Carlos Alberto made an unnecessary foul in the penalty area. Even not playing that well, Botafogo tied. And Carlos Alberto will be suspended for the second-leg. Really, Botafogo has no reasons for crying.
Besides Carlos Alberto, another 3 key players for coach Mano Menezes managed to get their third yellow card in the tournament, and will miss the next match. Fabinho, André Santos and Lulinha are out.
Botafogo can even start smiling. The home team found a goal and came back with 2 minutes left. In the stoppage time, Chicão tied for Corinthians, but the linesman saw an offside that did not exist. I’d like to hear what the officials of Botafogo have to say, given how they usually cry when refs make mistakes against them. Let’s not forget that it was Botafogo who put an end to the career of Ana Paula de Oliveira…
Crying or not, Bota plays for a draw next week in São Paulo.
