Copa Sulamericana: Very little for some. A lot for others.
By: Bruno Romani | September 18th, 2008Copa Sulamericana means nothing to Brazilian clubs, right? Not always. The crisis that took over Vasco in the Campeonato spilled to the continental competition, resulting in the coach’s resignation and lots of criticism offered by the leaders of the team. Coach Tita could not take another humiliating defeat and left. In his final words, he said that some players are simply not good enough to play for Vasco. According to Edmundo and Leandro Amaral, leaders of the team, players are lacking commitment. Both of them gave very emotional interviews after the 3-0 imposed by Palmeiras. President Roberto Dinamite seemed lost with both the defeat and the coach’s decision. Things are getting very harsh for Vasco.
For Palmeiras, on the other hand, the victory with the reserve side (the first goal was a beautiful volley by Jorge Prea) means that they still have to play this competition while fighting for the Brazilian title. “What a pain in the ass” must be thinking Luxemburgo. For some very little is a lot. For some, very little is just very little. Both sides would’ve been much happier if Vasco had qualified.
