Edmundo misses the penalty: The idol disappointed his fans
Thursday had more of the same.
For the Copa Libertadores, Santos went to Uruguay to play against Defensor and did a typical thing of this season: won. Wanderley Luxemburgo is ahead not only the best team in Brazil at the moment, but also seems to have gotten his luck back. In the second-half, Rodrigo Tabata left the bench and was responsible for the final score of 2-0. At the 23rd mark, he found Marcos Aurélio, who scored, and at the 39th he himself did the job from outside the box. Santos has 15 points in 5 games in the Libertadores.
With River Plate’s elimination tonight from South America’s most important and prestigious tournament, it seems that we will see another year of Brazilian supremacy in the Libertadores.
In São Paulo, Palmeiras won 2-0 the second leg against Ipatinga, from Minas Gerais, but did not qualify to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. In the city of Ipatinga, the home team had scored 2-0 against Palmeiras so they ended up in the penalty shoot outs tonight. Michael, Dininho and the Paraguayan Florentín scored for Palmeiras while Martinez, Edmundo and Amaral missed their penalties. Luciano Sorriso took the penalty that abbreviated Palmeiras appearance in the tournament. It seems that celebrating the controversial world title of 1951 is REALLY all that was left to Palmeiras.
The goals of the two matches plus a few other matches in the Copa do Brasil:
