Ex-President of Corinthians Says: “2005 Was Stolen”
By: Bruno Romani | September 25th, 2007Another chapter of the dirtiest period of Corinthians’ history. Alberto Dualib, ex-president of the club who quit last Friday, was caught by the Brazilian Federal Police on a phone conversation in which he clearly says that the 2005 Campeonato Brasileiro won by Corinthians was “stolen.”
The conversation between him and Renato Duprat, MSI agent in Brazil, happened in 2006. Dualib suggests that the title could not have happened without the controversial point in the draw of the match against Inter at Pacaembú. “In the last 5 matches we were 14 points ahead and we finished just one point ahead. Stolen,” says Dualib in the recording.
Dualib did the wrong math. Corinthians was just 6 points ahead in the final five matches, and it ended 3 points ahead of Inter. Still, that match echoes in the Brazilian press. Inter had a penalty not given by referee Marcio Rezende de Freitas, and Tinga, the player who was knocked down by keeper Fábio Costa, was sent off. The match ended 1-1.
Also, in the recording, Dualib recalls that the match fixture scandal that resulted in the cancellation of 11 matches helped his club. He says, “If it wasn’t for those 11 games cancelled we would have been out. The real champions is Internacional.”
In the midst of the match fixture scandal, the High Desportive Court decided that the 11 “contaminated” matches had to be replayed. Corinthians played twice. Out of the 6 points it had lost, Corinthians recovered 4 (it beat Santos and tied with São Paulo). This way Corinthians ended 3 points ahead of Inter. Had Inter got that penalty and the matches not happened, Corinthians would have ended 3 points behind.
The High Desportive Court says it will analyze the recordings whereas Inter will seek the cancellation of the title.

It was a joke… he said they were 14 points ahead (the true they were 6 points ahead). He also said that they finished 1 point ahead (the true they finished 3 points ahead).
It was penalty in Tinga in Corinthians v. SCI??? Who cares? The referees always made mistakes and they’ll keep making.
This was just my partial opinion…
Go Gremio!!!
