Like 1-1’s? Campeonato Brasileiro Does
By: Bruno Romani | May 26th, 2008Well, not my favorite result, but it was THE score of the weekend. It was repeated 5 times in 10 matches.
Super favorites Palmeiras played lazy and arrogant football against Portuguesa. Alex Mineiro missed a penalty and Diogo tied for Lusa. 1-1.
Vasco and Botafogo both had their heads in the semifinals of Copa do Brasil. Eduardo Luiz (Vasco) and Lúcio Flávio (Bota) built another 1-1 draw.
Two of the worst sides of série A played in Goiânia. The home team scored first through Paulo Baier, but it conceived Ipatinga the 1 draw. It was the first point ever of Ipatinga in série A. And it was the first goal ever scored by Ipatinga. The man who is part of history now is Neto Baiano.
São Paulo played a melancholic match at home against Coritiba. The elimination of Copa Libertadores resulted in the 1-1.
Finally, in the first match of Gallo was coach of Atlético-MG, his club visited Atlético-PR and got a 1-1 draw. Eduardo scored for the visitors and managed to get sent off.
The 1-1 could’ve happened in 2 other matches. Fluminense sent a reserve side to face Sport while it focuses on the Libertadores. The home team, which is probably the most exciting local side right now in Brazil, scored 2-0. Dodô scored for Flu.
At Maracanã, Flamengo and Inter had the 1-1 score when Souza gave the victory for Fla.
Coincidence or not, the 2 most consistent and solid clubs of the league were far from the boring 1 draw. Cruzeiro thrashed Santos, who also played on mode of Libertadores sadness. The 4-0 is statement showing the blue team will fight for the title again this season.
Grêmio delivered the first loss of Naútico and reached 7 points. Léo and Perea scored for the tricolor.
Finally, Figueirense, still lost after coach Gallo unexpectedly departed to coach Atlético, visited Vitória and gave the locals their first goals and victory after the return to série A. Jackson was the man who scored the first goal for Vitória in first division after a few years.
