PALMEIRAS WINS THE FIRST TITLE OF THE CENTURY IN SP
By: Bruno Romani | May 4th, 2008After 9 years, 1 relegation, lots of disappointment and mediocre campaigns, Palmeiras is big again. The green club did the expected and had no difficulties in beating 5-0 Ponte Preta at Palestra Italia. This is the third state championship title in a row for coach Vanderley Luxemburgo. For Palmeiras, this is the first Paulista title since 1996, and coincidently or not, Luxemburgo was the coach at that time.
Two goals happen in the first-half: one own-goal and one by Alex Mineiro, the top striker of the championship. The match was over. Ponte gave up.
Another three in the second-half: Valdivia and Alex Mineiro with another two completed the hat-trick.
The partnership between Palmeiras and the Sports Marketing company Traffic has already proved to be fruitful.
