Round of the Visitors, Round of Great Derbies
By: Bruno Romani | June 25th, 2007The 7th round of the Brasileirão was the round of the visitors and 3 great derbies.Goiás, with coach Paulo Bonamigo, visited Naútico in Recife and won by 2-0. The green team had the two goals scored through Fabricio Carvalho, the striker who almost retired due to a heart related illness. Naútico, on the other hand, is on the relegation zone.
Another club from the northeast in a very difficult situation is América-RN. They are in the last position in the table after receiving and losing against Fluminense and by 1-0 in one of the most disgusting games of the season. Boring like hell.
Palmeiras, once again, missed a high number of chances playing at home and lost the match. This time against Atlético-PR. Coach Caio Jr. is being pressured and rumors say his is to leave. The 2-0 put Palmeiras, team that does not win a title in 8 years, in the mediocre 13th position.
On Saturday, Paraná defeated Sport, club in the relegation zone, by 1-0 and took over the second spot. Juventude and Figueirense had a expected 1-1 draw.
Derbies
Santos 0 x 2 São Paulo
After the good games played last week, both clubs perceived the derby as the chance to consolidate an early recovery targeting the title. Pressured by the fans and the media, coach Muricy Ramalho needed to win to bring back piece to the tricolor. Luxemburgo, on the other hand, has been trying to restructure Santos to play without Zé Roberto.
São Paulo’s attack, very criticized, woke up and imposed to Santos an unquestionable loss still on the first-half. Helped by a good match by the two backs, Ilsinho and Jorge Wagner, strikers Aloisio and Dagoberto finally played well. Aloisio scored after 2 months and Dagoberto his first at São Paulo.
São Paulo owner of the best defense in the league, having conceived only 2 goals in 7 matches, also did a great job against a confused and inefficient attack from the peixe. Each side had one player sent off, but the extra space did not modify the actions. The 17 year-old defender Breno from São Paulo is someone to watch.
The victory positions São Paulo in third and throws Santos to the 15th spot, flirting with relegation.
Inter 0 x 2 Grêmio
It took less time than expected for Grêmio to recover from the defeat in the Copa Libertadores. The most passionate Brazilian derby had Inter as the super-favorites. The Beira-Rio received 33 thousand people, being only 2 thousand Grêmio fans.
In the beginning, it seemed that bad luck was with Grêmio. Amoroso, in a current scene, left the pitch injured. However, Lúcio, the criticized left back playing as an improvised midfielder, scored a superb goal, and sent bad luck away. In the second-half, Diego Souza, Grêmio’s MVP in the Libertadores, scored the second. Inter fans were enraged, asking coach Gallo to leave. The club is very close to the relegation zone. For Grêmio, the victory brings some piece back.
Cruzeiro 4 x 2 Atlético-MG
In Minas Gerais, a derby like in the old days. Cruzeiro scored 2-0, with both goals by Araújo. In the second-half, Atlético tied 2-2 in two bad plays by Cruzeiro’s goalie. Then, Héber Roberto Lopes, one of the most horrible refs in Brazil, gave a penalty to Atlético that did not exist.
Marcinho took it. And he missed the chance of the comeback! Few moments later, Cruzeiro scored another 2 goals and won the derby. It made everybody breathless.
