São Paulo to face Boca Juniors/ Messi’s Cousin scores again

By: Bruno Romani | August 24th, 2007

Copa Sulamericana will have its first big clash in the round of 16. São Paulo and Figueirense tied 1-1 at the Morumbi on Thursday, and with this São Paulo will take on Boca Juniors. Coach Muricy Ramalho had its usual starters, except for defender Miranda and Alex Silva who are with the national team, but the match was boring. In a mistake of São Paulo’s Souza, Figueirense scored through Jean Carlo with 12 minutes into the second-half.

With just eleven minutes to elimination, Rogerio Ceni left the goal and almost from the midfield got a beautiful long-pass, just like a midfielder, to Borges who saved the tricolor. São Paulo and Boca should finally make this cup interesting.

Campeonato Brasileiro

Flamengo and Juventude were the only clubs in action on Thursday, as they played a postponed match of the first-half of the league. Juventude had another coach having his debut: Beto Almeida. However, the path to relegation seems to be sealed. Flamengo got a 4-0, with goals by Souza, Obina – the folkloric striker, Maxi – aka Messi’s cousin, and Juan.

Flamengo is not out of the relegation zone yet, but the club seems to have found its way out of the zone.
