São Paulo X Grêmio: Brazilian Clash in the Copa Libertadores
By: Bruno Romani | April 25th, 2007The stage group of the Copa Libertadores is almost finished and one of the big games of the next round is Brazilian. São Paulo will take on Grêmio next week at the Morumbi.
The tricolor had another poor performance tonight playing in front of its fans, and managed only to get a draw (2-2) against Audax Italiano from Chile. The only good news for the Brazilian side is that Aloisio scored again since January. São Paulo ended in second in the group, behind Necaxa, and from an eventual easy game against Paraná, with the second spot, the tricolor will face one of the most traditional Brazilian clubs in the Copa Libertadores. On Tuesday, Grêmio won the match against Cerro Porteño and ended its group in first.
The two matches are promising. Besides all the titles the two clubs have, some characters will find themselves as protagonists of this big clash. Amoroso will meet São Paulo while Hugo will play against Grêmio for the first time since he left the gauchos. Lucas, the young and talented defensive midfielder, is injured and won’t play against São Paulo and the paulista club will added Dagoberto, just hired from Atlético-PR, to its roster.
São Paulo, receiving great pressure from its fans, has only one advantage. Simultaneously to the Copa Libertadores, Grêmio will be involved with the finals of the state league. The Copa Libertadores has started!
