The Underdogs in Copa do Brasil

By: Bruno Romani | May 3rd, 2008

Copa do Brasil is a great tournament for putting together clubs of various divisions. And it’s not unusual to see the underdogs reaching high stages in the cup. This year’s tournament already has its biggest surprise: Corinthians from Alagoas. The club reached the quarter-finals after losing 3-1 against Juventude, state finalist in Rio Grande do Sul. The first-leg was 1-0. Corinthians-AL already had eliminated Atletico-PR in the tournament, and now it will join Brazilian giants Botafogo, Vasco, Internacional and the original Corinthians from Sao Paulo in the quarter-finals. Corinthians-AL will take on Vasco for a spot in the semi-finals. Guess who this blog is supporting now…

This has been a great Copa do Brasil so far. I got to see the Corinthians-Goiás game here in the US, and it was unbelievable — I never thought I’d see a Mano Menezes team play like that.

    I’m rooting for a Corinthians-Corinthians final :-)
