Tired of Waiting for Good Players, Leao Leaves Santos

By: Bruno Romani | May 28th, 2008

6 months later, Leao gave up. Tired of asking the officials of Santos for new and better players, the coach decided to leave. After fighting relegation with Corinthians in 06, Atletico-MG in 07 and Santos in this year’s Sao Paulo state championship, Leao concluded that he did not want take part in one more dramatic season. It seems that the coach also does not believe new Diego’s and Robinho’s may exist in the young squads of the club. In 02, th situation was very similar to today’s, and Leao was brillant. One thing is clear: Santos suffers the Luxemburgo-effect, which is known as the disappearance of resources for good players soon as the coach decides to leave a club. Watch out Palmeiras!
