Court Makes Official Goal Ref. Didn’t See
By: Bruno Romani | April 3rd, 2007
It took two weeks, but finally a goal scored in the Pernambucano state championship has been validated. The Court of Desportive Justice conceded the goal to Vera Cruz in the match against Central de Caruaru that had previously ended 2 – 1 to the later.
Caruaru, Town where the game was played.
Central had the lead in the score board when Rivelino (not the original one) took a long distance shot to tie the game. Wilson de Souza Mendonça, a Fifa referee, was tricked by the fact that the net did not stop the ball, and just gave a goal kick to Central. With the Court’s decision the final score of the game was 2-2.
Despite Mendonça’s confession of his mistake and the support to the Court’s decision by the president of the Penambucos’s Football Federation, the president of Central said he will challenge the decision in higher courts. With the draw, Central lost the second spot in the championship to Naútico. The second team in the table plays 2008 Copa do Brasil.
Last Sunday, Sport Recife, Brazilian champions of 1987, won the tournament with no losses. Wilson de Souza Mendonça got a 5 game suspension. Watch by yourselves how blind the man is:

Looks like they need to invest in some better nets and some better referees.
