Defender Shows the Yellow Card to The Ref (Literally)
By: Bruno Romani | November 5th, 2008Some players are bound to brilliant moments in their careers. Some choose different paths to become big news. Andre Luiz, defender of Botafogo, is one of those who found a great niche in the oddities section. Last year June, André Luiz was arrested on the pitch in a match for Campeonato Brasileiro.
Tonight, his club found itself with a 2 goal draw at home against Estudiantes from Argentina. The score was eliminating Botafogo of the boring Copa Sudamericana. And the ref Carlos Chandía from Chile gave a free-kick to Estudiantes. He also decided to to give a yellow card to Andre Luis, for committing the foul. It was going to be his second, and a red card was just around the corner. This is when Andre exploded, took from Chandía’s hand the card and showed him the yellow. A complete non-sense, but funny. Look at the ref’s expression. The commentators are also shocked. And when we see trouble boy Carlos Alberto trying to get Andre Luis out of the argument is what makes thing it even more bizarre.
The images above just wrap up another year of emotional instability for Botafogo, which started with its vice-president getting into harsh arguments with the players through interviews with the press.

That was a crazy moment of that match. I do agree that the Sudamericana would be more exciting but it would also help if CONMEBOL upped the prize money for it so that the Brazilian clubs would send their first teams. That would make it a bit more exciting, at least for you guys.
Anywho, here are my match updates for the…
