Side-back Marcos Paulo of Santacruzense will never forget it. He fell on the pitch after a player of Oeste Paulista made a foul and when he stood up his body was full of red ants. Marcos Paulo freaked out. He ran to a puddle of water and tried to wash his body. It didn’t work. Then, he took off his shirt. The ants were still there. He had to run to the locker’s room to take a shower. All this is true and happened in Presidente Prudente in a match for the third division of São Paulo state championship.
Marcos Paulo fell on a colony that existed in pitch. He said, “I felt my body numb. I thought I was having a stroke or something when I realized my shirt was full of ants.”

The pitch was completely wet because of the heavy rains that hit the region and the ants ended up crawling the player’s body, which almost resulted in a yellow card. “When the ref saw me taking off the shirt he was going to give me a yellow card, but he freaked out when he saw the ants,” says the side-back.
The player got completely rid off the ants just in the half-time, 10 minutes later. The municipality of Presidente Prudente announced it will exterminate the colony which almost sent off Marcos Paulo. On the other hand, Santacruzense ads another oddity to its history. The club was the one for whom that ballguy scored a goal a few year ago, remember?
