Brazil 0 - 0 Argentina: Good-Bye Dunga?
By: Bruno Romani | June 19th, 2008Itâs about time, Dunga. A draw against Argentina usually is not bad. A draw against Argentina playing as if Brazil was Poland is terrible. The result of leaving the brain behind was the greatest amount of creative chants asking the coach to leave. Iâm not sure if I like more âAdeus, Dungaâ (Goodbye Dunga) or âAh, ta demitido!â (Oh, youâre fired).
Dunga chose physical work to beat Argentina. He put Adriano (whose return to the national squad feels a little too early) replacing Luis Fabiano and JĂșlio Baptista as the playmaker. Besides that, the usual: Maicon, Gilberto, Mineiro, Gilberto Silva. No flair. No creativity. A bunch of strong players without brains. Brazil did not have 1 man to take free-kicks.
Robinho was there as well despite the horrible matches he has been delivering. But Dunga loves him. Even if he keeps choking in important matches. Anderson also went to the match, just to keep the dose of arrogance high.
The real problem is that Dunga thinks this team is like the one from 1994. However, he forgets Maicon is not Jorginho (or CafĂș for that matter), Gilberto is not Leonardo and LĂșcio is far from being Aldair. Moreover, whoever is in the attack (either Adriano, Luis Fabiano or Robinho) is NOT RomĂĄrio and Bebeto.
In the first-half, there were only two chances: JĂșlio Baptista missed one by shooting in the hands of the keeper. In the second one, Robinho dribbled the keeper and was touched. Robinho, the man who is proud of his street smart nature, did not dive to gain the penalty. Great, Robinho!
Anderson got injured in the first-half, and Dunga sent Diego to the match. Again, the midfielder did not produce anything. This makes me think that Diego is that type of player who is great for the club, but never does anything good with the national squad, just like Ademir da Guia used to be. And I donât mean to compare the two players. Ademir played much more.
In the second-half, Argentina was closer to the goal than Brazil. But it seems that Los Hermanos were not that inspired today was well.
With the pale football, fans started to get furious and Dunga sent Luis Fabiano, replacing Adriano. Robinho remained untouched. Nothing happened. But before the match was over, there was time for the final joke from the bench. While fans chanted for the entry of Alexandre Pato, Dunga took Diego out and sent Daniel Alves. Let me put this clear to you: in order to get the victory, he took out an offensive midfielder and put a right-back. Brazil ended the match with 2 œ defensive midfielders (Julio Baptista is almost one) 2 right-backs and 2 distant forwards. Miracles, like the final of last yearâs Copa AmĂ©rica, do not happen very often.
End of the match, 0-0. Another result in Dunga fashion. Hopefully, it was the last one.

I saw the match. I think this classico could have been a lot better. Bruno, how many people in Brazil complain about the dark-skinned Brazilians that play for A Seleção? Why do you think it is that people rarely complain about the blacks that play for Brazil but they constantly say that my country, France, has a national team that should be named Africa? Is it since Brazil has a lot of mixed citizens and the blacks that play for France are a lot darker than the ones that play for Brazil? I apologize if this question is too sensitive.

no, the question is simple: brazilians don’t wanna see france with a strong side. the black players from france usually are important, or at least used to be, for the your national team (vieira, makelele, thuram). so they feel you’re “cheating” just to beat brazil. Plus, there’s a narrow minded view in Brazil that in europe there’s only “white/blond” people. even though, that’s wrong, it adds to feeling that france is cheating.
i’m not saying that brazil is racism free, but in this case, i’m pretty sure this is what is happening.

What would you do though? What would you change (apart from sack the coach)? I dont know much about Brazilian football beneath the national side. Would a new coach be able to mould a better side or are they just not good enough - let alone as good as the 94 team?

The second sentence of the eighth paragraph said it all — NOTHING HAPPENED. Good analysis, and a sickening story

Dunga is not the problem. CBF is. how did they appoint someone who have never coached before to coach Brazil? what are they waiting for to get rid of him? are they waiting that Brazil lose to Chile in September?
Dunga must go now

Gareth,
Brazil has tons of talented players but it is who is playing and who is not?
Why are the following palyers not playing? Elano, Fred,Pato, Ze Roberto, Kaka, Hernanes? Ronaldhino? Why is Daniel Alves coming off thebench ? he is better than Gilberto. Why is Gilberto Silva still playing for BRAZIL?

Julien,
Tu racontes des histoires. Les noirs qui jouent pour la France sont des Africains pour la plupart nes en Afrique ou de parents Africains.
Viera ( Senegal), Makelele ( Congo),Djibril Cisse ( Cote D’Ivoire), Gomis ( Senegal), Zidane, Arfa, Benzema, Nasri ( tous magrebins) tour recemment et autres..

There is a perception that France cheat because the people of African origin who play for France , most of the time, chose France over their native countries or the native countries of their parents in Africa. Gomis is the most recent example.. he could have chosen to play for Senegal instead he chose France, same for Jibril Cisse who toyed with playing for ivory Coast before electing to play for France. The African who play for France are first generation French.
You cannot compare to blacks in Brazil. They have no attachment to Africa… none whatsoever..they are Brazilians of dark skin but they are not africans.. the french players are…. Patrick Viera (Senegal), Makele( Congo), Djibril Cisse ( Ivory Coast) Gomis ( Senegal)… all the north Africans pied noirs ( Zidane, Benzema, Ben Arfa, Nasri)..
Name me a Brazilian player and his country of Origin in Africa and I will retract the clear perception that France is poaching bright African stars with citizenship to play for France

dunga will be sacked based on recent results however the upcoming olympics will be his jury if we win god forbid he’s here to stay at the beginning it was really good we trashed the argies twice on his last year, and we played some good samba football againts the portuguese and some talents that no one knew were given chances and discovered like carvalho, elano and lucas + rafinha but the problem is he is not experienced enough to get the best out of these players, and how the hell does pato stay on the bech for a full 90? that does not even happen at milan. and his use of miniero, g.silva who does not even start at his club. josue is okay with me but he will need a bigger club if he is to start for the selecao. fred should be called back, and the new hot prospects from brazil carlos eduardo, and diogo an arsenal target should be given chances with the selecao as we need a target man type foward wich these guys are.

Who cares? what i mean is, look, if france are lucky enough to increase their talent pool with african players then good for them. Why should brazil talk about it? Yes it makes it a lot harder to beat france now!!! But yes, in third world countries, sometimes they are more narrow minded and rascist than the west!!! All i can say when i see france, is see a european brazil, and thats a GOOD thing…
