Brazil 0 x 0 Turkey: wake me up…

By: Bruno Romani | June 5th, 2007

Before anything else, it’s clear: Brazil should not be allowed to play friendly matches anymore. They’re lazy, lame, mechanical and dragging. They lack commitment, creativity and passion. They’re a product to be offered to foreign eyes without the benefit of the improvement for the squad.

If Dunga wants to play a few matches to make experiments and tests, I suggest calling the team for matches closed to the public and media, far from anyone who can see that he doesn’t know how to put a team together. Dunga is killing every striker on the bill: Fred, Vagner Love, and today it was Afonso’s turn, although calling him already looks like a mistake.

Dunga was hired to be the coach for his fame as a tough player, full of energy, to be a new Felipão. But he watches passively bright midfielders do nothing, and I’m not talking about Mr. TV Commercial Ronaldinho or Mr. Virginity Kaká. Dunga had today Diego, Elano and Robinho, the Santos trio that in 2002/03 mesmerized South-America, doing nothing. Every choice for right and left back he does seem like bad defensive midfielders improvised as a right/left back. Even if these guys, like Dani Alves and Gilberto, are doing well in their clubs.

The mixture of a bad coach and uncommitted players are killing elements of what used to be fun in the past. Friendly games 10 ago always ended with Brazil scoring at least 3 goals. A good player is a hungry player.

The only highlight in the match against Turkey was the participation of defender Naldo. Too little for Brazil.

Any reason why they are playing such uninspired football? They don’t appear to want to be on the pitch, which is very unusual for a Brazil squad. Makes you wonder if Dunga will even make it through the Copa America with a job.

As far as the Brazilian FA is concerned he certainly will be keeping his job irrespective of Copa results. The only thing that counts for the FA is the qualification for the WC 2010 and the World Cup itself. At least that’s what I read recently.

And about the style of play: I mean the squad that played in last years World Cup didn’t play the most attractive football either so Dunga probably just continues where Parreira left.
