Brazil 1 x 1 England: Another boring game in the Dunga saga.
By: Bruno Romani | June 1st, 2007
Another friendly game, ground for boredom, laziness and business. Teams mirror their coaches and this Brazilian team is exactly what Dunga used to be. It controlled the midfield but had no creativity.Opportunities appeared only in the second-half, but too little for the Brazilian squad. The fake idols, Ronaldinho and Kaká, did the usual, posing a lot but with little effectiveness. And it is unbelievable that Dunga allowed to happen the only thing that England does: wait for Davod Beckham to cross and take free-kicks. In one of them, Terry scored. Maicon, somebody who Dunga loves, failed to clear the ball.
In the last 10 minutes, Brazil decided to play an England like football, relying in long passes and waiting for a miracle. Afonso, the unknown striker, remained in the shadows, by missing two good chances in 5 minutes. The last cross found Diego who gave final numbers to the match.
The new Wembley deserved something better.
ps: Dunga, what’s up with that shirt again? Your daughter is turning you into a joke.

Not a fan of the Nike boys? That’s refreshing. It’s nice to hear someone actual say something negative about Ronaldinho and Kaka since most other people don’t have the balls to go up against the hype machine.
I think Brazil were the better squad, but just couldn’t take advantage of their opportunities. It probably should have been 2-1 or 3-1, and you’re right, how the hell do you let Beckham beat you on a free kick?

Just stumbled across this wonderful soccer site (my son knew of it, presumably, sometime ago and follows it regularly) by accident, almost… what a treat! Finally, a writer who doesn’t just drip copious quantities of praise on everyone/everything, lauding the most trivial crap. Anyway, delighted to read Bruno’s refreshing piece/analysis on the Brasil-England match, and those two tired superstars who chose to sit-it-out. I’d given up on finding any REAL summaries, figured they were all written by “homey” cheerleaders. Muito obrigado!
PS, I’ll be back in Rio next month — looking forward to seeing a few games. Also, Brian’s comments (above) would lead me to believe that I’m not alone…..Posted from

You know something is wrong in the world when a guy takes a team full of the world’s best players and has them playing like a team hugging the bottom of the Belgian Juliper league.
