Copa Libertadores Started for Brazil and The Seal Kid is Injured Again!

By: Bruno Romani | January 31st, 2008

Cruzeiro x Cerro Porteno (Copa Libertadores)

(With AP) Cruzeiro beat Cerro Porteno, traditional club from Paraguay, 3-1 in the first-leg of the qualifying for the Copa Libertadores. Cerro Porteno started better, missing a few chances, but Cruzeiro reversed that and translated it into goals. Five minutes before halftime an unmarked Ramires took a feed from Guilherme at the top of the penalty area, whirled and fired past Cerro goalkeeper Diego Barreto.

Cruzeiro striker Marcelo Moreno picked up a deflected ball in the penalty area and fired it in to make it 2-0 in the 60th, then Cerro narrowed the gap in the 72nd when Charles grabbed a Paraguayan attacker in the penalty area. Defender Nelson Cabrera converted the penalty kick.

With a minute to play, Ramires collected his second of the night, taking a pass from Marcinho at the top of the penalty area, breaking right and firing cross-goal into the far corner. Now, the club can even lose next week by one goal and it will still make it into the group of Caracas (Venezuela), Real Potosi (Bolívia) e San Lorenzo (Argentina).

Bad news is that Kerlon, the seal kid, had another serious knee injury.

ps: can anyone tell me why Sao Paulo and Cruzeiro blogs died?

Hey Bruno, I’m looking forward to Cruzeiro making it to the group stage of Libertadores tonight with a win (or I’ll take a draw).

But what’s up with Kerlon? Is his injury serious? I haven’t found anything online about it. I was really hoping this would be the year he benefited the Raposas.

    Regards,

    Bill

it is a serious knee injury. he will be out for a couple of months again. and having cruzeiro on the next stage would be cool for brazilian football. i hope they make it too.
