Doping suspends Dodô for 120 days
By: Bruno Romani | July 25th, 2007The High Court of Desportive Justice condemned the forward Dodô to a 120 days suspension due to the use of fenproporex, a substance found in drugs to suppress the appetite. The striker from Botafogo was caught in an anti-doping test in June after the match in which his team defeated Vasco by 4-0. This is the minimum sentence of the Brazilian Code of Despotive Justice.
The four auditors and the president of the court resisted the pressure of Botafogo fans, who marched and chanted songs in front of the building. They did not consider the defense’s thesis that Dodô had been a victim of contamination by the pharmacy that produced the caffeine pills he ingested 45 minutes prior to the match.
Dodô claimed to be innocent and said everything he ingested was under the supervision of Botafogo’s staff. The club says it will seek to smooth out the sentence, by converting half of it into social services. Botafogo is the leader of the Brasileiro with 25 points. Dodô has 7 goals, two scored in the match against Vasco.
