The Keeper who Scored More Goals than Rogerio Ceni in 07

By: Bruno Romani | December 21st, 2007

When a goalkeeper scores in Brazil, the first name that comes to the mind of fans is Rogerio Ceni. But in 2007, another keeper visited the back of the net more than Sao Paulo’s captain. Tiago, who played both the second division of Campeonato Brasileiro and the second division of campeonato paulista for Portuguesa, scored 13 goals in 2007 against 10 of Rogerio. Both players scored 2 goals each of free-kicks and the rest from the spot.

Unlike Rogerio, who has almost 80 goals in his career, these were the first 13 of the 24 years-old keeper. The first one happened against XV de Jau  in a match for the second division of Campeonato Paulista. With his goals, Portuguesa returned to the first division of the state’s league. In the serie B of Campeonato Brasileiro, he kept scoring and helped Portuguesa to return to the first division. With all this, Vasco already hired Tiago for next season.

In 2008, Tiago and Rogerio will be able to play against each other again after 3 years. The first time that happened, in 2005, Rogerio scored in the match Sao Paulo won 5-1 against Corinthians, club where Tiago started and got fired.
