25th Round Wrap up

By: Bruno Romani | September 10th, 2008

The 25th round of Campeonato Brasileiro was spread out throughout last week, with games happening on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Here is a short review. For the record.

1)Most Important Victory:
Santos 2 -0 Vitoria: Santos left the relegation zone after 19 rounds.
Coritiba 0 - 1 Botafogo: Playing away, the club from Rio beat a contender for a spot in the top 4.

2)Going Up:
Goias 4 - 0 Atletico-PR: Great victory. Not the first time Goias puts on a good recovery in the second-half of the league after a very poor first one.

3)Most boring matches:
Atletico-MG 1 - 1 Sao Paulo: Two own goals. Need more?
Fluminense 0 - 0 Gremio: The only name to remember from this match was keeper Victor

4)Surprise:
Palmeiras 0 - 3 Sport: Again Sport thrashed Palmeiras this year. And striker Roger, fired from Ponte Preta, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras due to lack of goals, scored twice.

5)Most Dramatic:
Vasco 1 - 3 Cruzeiro: Edmundo becoming a goalie. Oh man..

6)Most entertaining:
Figueirense 2 - 3 Flamengo: Beautiful goals and a tight final score.

7)Desperation:
Inter 1 - 0 Portuguesa: Things started to go really bad for Portuguesa.
Nautico 2 - 0 Ipatinga: Against a direct rival, Ipatinga lost any hopes of staying in first division. The team is just bad.

Hi, Bruno, I am big fan of Brazilian football. Thank you for this blog, it’s always great to read.
Can I ask you to write sometimes about most talented youngsters who play in Brazil? There is a lot of information in Portuguese, but for me it’s very hard to translate. Maybe you can post your own list of top 10 or top 50 youngsters from the league (s). That would be great.
    Once again, thank you
