After 29 years, Avai is Back To First Division!

By: Bruno Romani | November 12th, 2008

The second club who will join the main division of Brazilian football is Avai from Florianopolis. Avai is famous for being the club supported by ex-tennis player Gustavo Kuerten, aka Guga. Tonight, Avai beat Brasiliense 1-0 at home and reached 66 points. The goal was scored by Evando on the 36th minute of the second-half. Goalie Guto from Brasiliense made a mistake and put the club in the first division. After the match was over, Guga celebrated with the players on the pitch and looked very happy. The last time his club played the first division in 1979, Guga was only 3 years old. Check it out:

I´m so proud of living in Florianópolis and being an Avaí fan! The “Magic Island” deserves a great club at First Division (série A). Congratulations on Avaí, its players and thousands of fans, like me and Guga!

Now we have a new joke, related to American Elections. President Obama was born in Hawaii, so in Portuguese he is “Havaiano” (H has no sound). Who is an Avaí fan is called “Avaiano”. All the things are so good to Avaí that its fans tell even the President of United States is Avaiano!

Apologize my English mistakes, hope you can undestand what I´ve ment. Viva Avaí!!!

wow. I’m so glad to see all these Avai fans here. More of you here than Corinthians fans when they were promoted. Congrats, people!

I love Floripa. One day I’m gonna live there for sure.

I’d be interested to hear what expectations the Avaí fans have for the 2009 Brasileiro. are we talking about a season of consolidation, maybe a Sul Americana place, or are there fears Avaí will do an Ipatinga?
