Corinthians’ Coach Fired After Loss to Cruzeiro

Carpegiani: Last Goodbye

Cruzeiro massacred Corinthians at the Pacaembu. Not only the blue team confirmed its good moment with the sixth straight victory, but also it got Paulo César Carpegiani, Corinthians’ coach, fired. Alecssandro, a favorite to become the top-striker of the league, scored twice – one in each half. Jonathan scored the other goal.

Fired, Carpegiani said: “ Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to continue my work, but I understand the officials. Sometimes, you need to give a step back to calm things down. I just have to thank the fans.”

Carpegiani replaced Leão in April. In his debut, Corinthians was eliminated by Naútico in the round of 16 of Copa do Brasil. Later, the team had a good start in the league, but the questionable skills of his players and the political and economic problems of Corinthians had an impact on his work. Corinthians has not announced a new coach yet.

Corinthians still owe Lyon money. I think they will lose points and wind up relegated (though they don’t really need the help, do they?).
