Guara and Palmeiras Still on the Top. Sao Paulo Moves to 4th.
By: Bruno Romani | March 28th, 2008The Paulista championship delivered another round to raise more question marks about who are going to be the 4 teams qualified to the semi-finals.
On Wednesday, everything seemed ready for a draw between Palmeiras and Portuguesa in a match which the green team attacked a lot. That’s when luck of the champions struck again. Jorge Preá, forward who before this match never got the love of Palmeiras fans, left the bench and scored the lonley goal of the match with 3 minutes into the stoppage time in the second-half. Amazing.
In Santos, the derby between the home team and Corinthians was intense. Santos won 2-1 with an extra help of ref Salvio Espindola. Ironically enough, this is the same ref who helped Corinthians in the draw against São Paulo.
Yesterday, São Paulo took on Sertãozinho. Adriano scored, but the real Emperor at São Paulo is Borges. He scored twice and has 9 goals in the championship. Together, him and Adriano scored more than 50% of the goals São Paulo scored this season. The 3-1 took the tricolor to the third spot.
The leader still is Guaratinguetá after beating Mirassol 3-1. Ponte Preta tied in 1 goal with Rio Claro and Barueri won 3-0 against Noroeste.
Now the table looks like this with two rounds left:
Guaratinguetá 34
Palmeiras 34
São Paulo 32
Ponte Preta 31
Corinthians 30
Barueri 29
Santos 29
Other State Leagues:
This year, it’s been pretty boring. The big clubs are controlling all actions. So no reports today.
