Internacional is the King of the Cups in South America

By: Bruno Romani | June 8th, 2007

Last night, Internacional and Pachuca played the second-leg of the Recopa. The Mexican team held a 2-1 advantage from the first game, and sought to show to South America that they’re not polite guests in Conmebol competitions. Inter is having a disappointing season and helped by a packed and red Beira-Rio, the Brazilian side was ready to put an end to all the drama of 2007.

In the first-half from the spot, Alex scored the first. In the second-half, the colorados destroyed the mexican side with goals by Pinga, Alexandre Pato and a own-goal by Mosquera. Inter becomes the second Brazilian club to ever win the Libertadores, the Club World Cup and the Recopa all in one season. Before them, São Paulo carried that glory.

ps: My father is probably very happy. He is crazy for Inter…

After being so awful in those first Serie A games, I’m perplexed on how they were able to put it all together for this one against a (presumably) good opponent. Like, they were about the worst, along with Goais and those guys from ‘way up North……
Or, did they blow those league games so as to load-up for this one? Can anyone suggest “why?”

I think Inter is aware they won’t do well at the International stage so soon again. So, they played their lives on that game. Besides that, I assume pachuca is pretty tired after winning the Mexican league and the Cup of the Champions of Concacaf.

I’ll say it again, and in public, Bruno — this site is a joy! Good information. No, GREAT information, with no silly crap or cheerleading. I wager a little occasionally on a few things I think I know something about, and being better educated is the key. Yet, the “imponderables” — like Nautico beating Vasco at the start; Santos and SaoPaulo being blah (as I am now, at this very monent, drinking coffee imported from Santos) and Corinthians playing over-their-heads (?)…….
Whew — love this game! And I’ll be in Rio next week!
Anyway, Bruno — I much appreciate your writing/analysis, and so does my younger son (although he follows the Brits a bit more than I — his great grandfather played for Nott-Forest about 100 years ago…), a fan of Arsinal, methinks……
    CONTINUED SUCCESS!
