Quick Notes on Campeonato Brasileiro
By: Bruno Romani | June 10th, 2008-What’s happening with Internacional and Palmeiras? It seems the title of the state championship stopped both clubs for the remainder of the season. Inter is in the relegation zone after losing for Portuguesa 3 – 1. Palmeiras lost for the reserves of Sport 2-0. As much as I love state championships, they do have a negative impact for those who win them.
-Coach Gallo never learns. Last year, he quit a good campaign at Sport to do a very poor job at Internacional. And both Gallo and Sport suffered. This year, he left the good job he was doing Figueirense to join Atletico-MG. Well, Figueirense was crushed by Flamengo 5-0 while Atletico-MG was thrashed by Sao Paulo 5-1.
-Gremio remains was one of the most solid squads of the league. This time the club from Porto Alegre beat Fluminense 2-1. Cruzeiro remain solid, but their 1-0 victory against Vasco was a gift given by the ref.
-Ipatinga 0-0 Nautico was one of the most boring matches ever of Campeonato Brasileiro. And Goias continues its saga towards second division. This time Atletico-PR killed it with a 5-0. Santos also reached the relegation zone after losing against Vitoria 1-0. The peixe is peaking a financial crisis. This season will be very tough for the club from Vila Belmiro.
-After fighting the police the weekend before, Botafogo beat Coritiba 2-1. Trouble boy Carlos Alberto scored his first goal for Bota. Will his career happen this time?
-In second division, life is beautiful for Corinthians. 5 victory in 5 matches. The victim of the weekend was Barueri who lost 4-1.

Bruno,
What’s the best English-language site to standings, stats, and news from the Brasileiro? I haven’t had much luck looking around on google.
Cheers.
