Quick Summary of the Weekend: Goalie Scores, Goalie Kills his Team.
By: Bruno Romani | January 28th, 2008Ok, these were the events of weekend in the various state championships:
Paulista
-Palmeiras just tied against Mirassol in 2 goals.
-São Paulo and Corinthians played a boring derby. The 0 draw was fair. Adriano scored, but referee Salvío Espindola did not allow it, resulting in the biggest controversy of the weekend.
-Santos won its first match of the season, 2-0, against Bragantino. Thiago Luís, whom some Spanish newspaper calls “The Brazilian Messi,” played his first match as a professional and score the first goal with a header. Remember, you heard about him first here. The second came through a bizarre play by Bragantino’s Gléguer and Ney Santos. (well, his last name tells you everything).
-Ponte Preta still leader. 12 points in 4 matches.
Carioca:
-All the big clubs won, except for Fluminense who just tied in 2 with Macaé.
Flamengo 5 – 1 Duque de Caxias, Botafogo 3 – 0 Americano , and Vasco 3 – 0 Mesquita were the final scores. Goalie Tiago took his first penalty as a Vasco player and scored the first goal of a goalkeeper in the club’s history .
Gaúcho
-Grêmio struggled to pull out a 1 – 0 victory against Santa Cruz .
-Inter beat São José 4-1. Alex scored twice, but the headlines are with Nilmar again. Another injury. This time just the muscle. He should be back in one month.
Mineiro:
-Cruzeiro won 4-0 against Uberaba and Atlético lost 1-0 against Democrata.
