São Paulo 99% Champion; Corinthians Gets Some Hope

Five matches to go. Fifteen points ahead of the second team. São Paulo is 99% the champion. This weekend the club who conceived 13 goals in 33 matches visited Sport and won with keeper Rogério Ceni as the protagonist. Again. Rogério scored the first with a free-kick. Minutes later, he missed a penalty. Later on, he saved a header. And guided the his teammates in the second-half. Aloísio increased the gap for the Tricolor. Sport still had a penalty, but could not do what all the other teams also have not been able to do in the league: score two goals in the same match against São Paulo. The Champions visited Sport. On Wednesday, São Paulo will face América, last club on the table, and will need a simple draw to celebrate one more title.

On the bottom of the table, the weekend was excellent for Corinthians. The timão finally won, with striker Finazzi scoring the two goals of the 2-1 victory against Figueirense. Santos beat Goiás, the first team outside the relegation zone, by 3-0. Now both Goiás and Corinthians have 41 points, but the green team has 2 more victories than Corinthians. Despite the fact that it will remain in the relegation zone at least until Wednesday, Corinthians watched some of its rivals in the fight against relegation lose important points.

Naútico visited Grêmio and lost 4-3 in he best match of the weekend. Striker Marcel scored twice for the locals, and Uruguayan Acosta scored again for Naútico. Finally, Flamengo displayed one more time its popularity among Northeastern people.
Flamengo visited América in front of more than 30 thousand Flamengo fans and got a 1-0 victory. The club now is a real contender for a spot in next year’s Copa Libertadores.
