The 4 Clubs Back to Serie A: Congrats Coritiba, Ipatinga, Portuguesa, Vitória

By: Bruno Romani | November 13th, 2007

With 2 matches still to go, série B has defined the 4 clubs going to first division next year. The 4 clubs will bring excitement and history to série A.

1)Coritiba:
Brazilian Champs of 1985, the club from Curitiba is back to first division just 2 years after relegation. They were the only club who qualified rounds ago and are very close to the title. The derby between Atlético-PR and Coritiba is back!
Main player: Kerrison.

2)Ipatinga:
Incredible job. This club is just 10 years-old, and has been twice in the semi-finals of Copa do Brasil. This was their first season in série B, coming from third division. The state of Minas Gerais will have again 3 clubs in first division, along with Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG. Always nice to see a new club in first division. The 3-2 victory over Marília granted Ipatinga a spot in séria A. Main Players: Gerson Magrão.

3) Portuguesa:
Very traditional club from the city of São Paulo. A club where players such as Zé Roberto and Denner started their careers. A club that plays derbies against São Paulo, Corinthians, Palmeiras and Santos must be in first division. A club that has a goalie who has scored more goals this year than Rogério Ceni must be in série A. Even losing against Coritiba tonight by 2-0, the club of the Portuguese community is back. Main players: Tiago, Diogo.

4) Vitória:
The happiest people of Brazil have a club in first division again. The state of Bahia will have Vitória in first division after the 4-1 victory over CRB. A club where Dida, Edilson, Júnior, Alex Alves, Vampeta, Felipe, Alecssandro and many other started their careers must be in série A. Runners-up of 1993, Vitória is back after 4 years of relegation. Main players: Joãozinho, son of the famous Cruzeiro player in the 70’s Joãozinho, and Jackson.

Ipatinga´s rise deserves to be praised and emulated. It has maintained a very high level since 2005 and there it is : Brazilian Serie A.
Its success has been built on valuing the teams and not one particular player-star. Team-work at its best.
Congratulations to the Tigers of Steel.

Coritiba, Series B champs, back to Series A. Best players: Henrique, Douglas Silva, Tulio, as well as Pedro Ken and Keirrison, both to display their talent with the olympic Brazilian team.
