The Party is Over for the Small Clubs in São Paulo
By: Bruno Romani | March 13th, 2008Until Wednesday night, for 14 rounds the top 4 of the Paulista Championship always had 3 small against 1 big club. Now the party for the small is over. Corinthians beat Rio Preto 1-0 and jumped to the second spot. São Paulo took the third place from Barueri, after beating it 2-1. Palmeiras won 2-1 against Ponte Preta and now is the fourth in the table. Things seem to be getting to normal. The leader, however, still is Guaratinguetá, who plays today and will remain in the first spot even if it loses.
In Rio, Flamengo 2 – 0 Mesquita. The unusual happened in the 2-2 draw between Fluminense and Resende. The club had a disappointing performance. Flu is missing Dodô.
In Rio Grande do Sul, Juventude destroyed Internacional in the second-half 3-0. Juventude confirmed its tradition of always killing Internacional.

‘The party’ is not necessarily over for the minnows and it’s too early to write them off. Only five points separate the top seven in the Paulista and things could change dramatically over the weekend.

Fun reading, and some real substance in your recent accounts, Bruno — good work. And thanks! By the way, any predictions for the upcoming season of Futebol in Brasil? Would love to see your analysis of the clubs for this next big season, when you have time - or all the rosters are known.
Stay well — and keep up the great work.Posted from
