U-17: The Sound of Failure Strikes Again
By: Bruno Romani | August 29th, 2007The lack of respect, commitment, focus and passion by Brazilian players when it comes to the national team has affected the young talents too. After the mediocre campaigns of 06 by the adult team and last month’s U-20, the U-17 squad was eliminated today by Ghana in the round of 16. Brazil lost by 1-0 even though Ghana had a player sent off in the beginning of the second-half. Shame. It’s all about money and their careers.
In the meantime, Brazilian clubs, who are also interested in selling young talents, are doing well on the international stage. Sao Paulo killed Real Madrid with 3-0 in the semifinals of the U-17 Club World Cup, and now it will take on Partizan from Serbia in the final match.

I’ve got a question concerning the Brazil U20s, if you don’t mind. How do you think they performed at their World Cup? I’ve been hearing people say that Pato was amazing and all that, but they did get knocked out fairly early.

Hi Linda, thanks for visiting…
The U-20 is a generation full of good talents. No doubt about it. Pato is talented. The problems with the U-20 WC, I think, were:
1- bad coach. as obvious as it this may sound, Nelson Rodrigues is more known for his good connetions within CBF than any previous work (if there is any).
2- most of these players already are starters in their clubs in Brazil and Europe. With some help by fans and the press, they do get too full of themselves and forget to play as a team. Here is where a good coach would’ve controlled the situation…
3- most of the players are thinking about money, deals, contracts… at that age, i think they lack experience to do each thing at the proper time…
i think this is a start. i hope it helped.

Thanks very much for the answer. It’s sad to see players who are so young already inflicted with the curse of egos and money.
