Why You Must Love Rio’s State Championship!

By: Bruno Romani | January 24th, 2008

A few reasons to just like the Rio de Janeiro’s state championship:

Reason #1: Cheerleaders of small clubs

We’re talking about girls in Rio de Janeiro in the summer. Get it? (Pic: Cheerleaders of Boa Vista in the match against Flamengo)

Reason #2: Veteran and folkloric players

Viola, 39, playing for Duque de Caxias and scoring a goal like this against Fluminense ?

Viola, number 21, in the old days: Celebrating the 1994 World Cup

Reason # 3: Creative Fans

Fans from Rio are the most exciting and creative in Brazil.

Reason # 4: Kids of famous players starting their careers

Rodrigo, son of legendary left-back Junior , is starting his career playing for the small Cardoso Moreira (he passed the ball in the only goal of his team in the match against Flamengo ) . Thiago Coimbra, son of Zico, plays for Madureira. Very likely they will all fail.

Really don’t need the “cheerleaders” per se, BUT, I sure do miss wonderful Rio!! (when I win the Lottery tonight, think I’ll buy a little pad in Urca = Love it!)
